2016年NBA總冠軍賽戲劇化地落幕，騎士隊從1：3落後大逆轉到4：3封王，而勇士隊則無緣締造2連霸，對此主將柯瑞（Stephen Curry）表示：「我打得不夠好，是我沒能幫助球隊。」將落敗責任攬在自己身上。
柯瑞第7戰全場攻下17分、但三分線上投14只中4，是勇士打得辛苦的關鍵。勇士此役靠格林（Draymond Green）狂轟猛炸、全場拿32分，才能跟騎士呈現拉鋸戰，柯瑞和湯普森（Klay Thompson）都沒能繳出超水準成績，湯普森此役三分球投10只中2。柯瑞說：「接下來3個月是沈重的日子，但不代表下一季我們不會更好。」
去年沒能在總冠軍賽拿下MVP，柯瑞今年不但冠軍賽表現不如預期，連冠軍都失手，這對他來說無疑將掀起批判。他坦言自己應該扛起全責，他認為自己應該要表現得更好，「我們打得不夠積極主動，沒抓住機會，這個結局令人難受。」
另外，已經宣布退出里約奧運征戰的柯瑞，再次否認即將開刀的傳言，「我沒有要開刀，但會好好休息，可是受傷因素不是輸球藉口。」
勇士隊總教練柯爾（Steve Kerr）表示：「騎士贏得實際名歸。」他認為系列戰第5戰在主場，勇士沒能拿下是輸掉冠軍最關鍵的一役，「我仍以球員為傲。」
