因應強烈颱風尼伯特襲台，及對台澎金馬地區可能造成的災害，國軍防救災部隊本於「救災就是作戰」的任務指導，包含陸軍航特部特戰部隊、海軍陸戰隊偵搜大隊等救災兵力，於前（六）、昨（七）日即已分批進駐新北市烏來區、宜蘭縣南澳鄉等高潛勢重點地區及偏鄉原鄉地區，航特部特戰官兵並分成多組，除攜帶衛星電話、GPS定位系統、發電機等裝備外，並配備由中科院研發，具視訊、傳真等多功能的可攜式衛星終端系統，可將發生土石流、房屋倒塌等重大災情現場，立即透過人造衛星傳送回作戰指揮中心，供指揮官能即時掌握第一手災情，以利調度救災兵力及指揮救災參考。
國防部表示，國軍昨日於本島各地區預置兵力合計二四六四人，主要裝備包括輪型車輛二八六輛、裝甲車十四輛、舟艇卅六艘，及工兵救災之推土機、小山貓等機具，海軍陸戰隊並於宜蘭蘇澳鎮公所、桃園下湖西營區、嘉義水上機場、台南官田營區、屏東枋山防訓中心、恆春消防隊等六處，預置AAV-七兩棲突擊車十四輛、膠舟十二艘，以利於第一時間投入災害搶救工作。國軍昨日並派遣三九七人，配合各縣市政府於高雄六龜、花蓮秀林、萬榮、豐濱、富里、壽豐、光復等鄉鎮，協助鄉民預防性撤離。
